Timothy
& Joanne's Story
Hello and welcome to the
profile on Timothy Howson & Joanne Bolton.
1991 was an important year for
Timothy and Joanne, as this was the year they started their now nine-year
partnership together. They began their personal relationship three years
earlier, but it was not until the August of 1991 that they decided to dance
together.
During this time they have enjoyed
much happiness and have achieved incredible success together. Dancing has always
dominated their lives, and they consider themselves very fortunate to be able to
travel the world visiting many breathtaking places. They compete, demonstrate,
teach and lecture all over the world, and they cherish their opportunities of
meeting up with old friends and of course making new ones. Being able to earn a
living doing what they love most was a dream they both had from an early
age.
Take a look at the List of
Achievements¡¯ page to see exactly how many titles they have secured so
far!
So let¡¯s go back to their childhood
to find out how and when they both began.
Timothy started dancing when he was
five years old with the Ken Bateman and Blanche Ingle School of Dancing.
Similarly Joanne started when she was four, with the Tom and Pat Lait Dance
Club. Timothy came from a dancing back ground, as his mother ran a Ballet and
Tap school, and his brother and sister both danced Ballroom and Latin at an
early age. Tim, however didn¡¯t share the same enthusiasm in the beginning, and
was bribed with sweets into a dance class by his early teacher Blanche Ingle.
The rest as they say is History, as he never looked back from here.
Joanne¡¯s parents attended Social
Dancing classes right up to the time she was born, and say that as soon as she
could walk it was clear to see that she was going to be a dancer of some kind.
So at the age of four they took her to Ballroom and Latin American classes, and
she too has never once thought about any other career.
At the beginning of their competitive
dancing careers they both enjoyed the Latin and the Ballroom styles, and over
the years have achieved great success with different partners.
Timothy¡¯s, first significant success
came when he won the Juvenile, (under 12 years old), International Ballroom
Championships. As a Junior, (12-16 years), he won the British Open and
International Ballroom Championships. During his Youth career, (16-21 years), he
won the British Open Championships three times.
Similarly, Joanne¡¯s competitive
career started dancing at a young age. Firstly she was involved with medallist
competitions, and then later enjoyed the Supadance League. When she was six she
started to learn the Man¡¯s steps as well as the Lady¡¯s in both the Ballroom and
Latin American styles. This she feels has been of great benefit to her as a
Professional Dance Teacher, and she is thankful to have been given the
opportunity to learn invaluable information at an early age.
Later she widened her interests with
Open Competitions, and with her previous partner won the International and
British Open Youth Championships.
Separately, their parents hugely
supported their Juvenile, Junior, Youth and part of their Amateur careers once
they were together. They both agree that they would not be where they are today
without the love, help, advice and financial support of their parents. Of course
their parents still follow their careers constantly as Professionals, but they
now have their own lives back. They were totally devoted for many, many years,
to driving up and down the country for the lessons and practice time required,
several times a week. This was in addition to holding down full time jobs to
cover the cost of their children¡¯s ambitions.
As Professionals they have entered a
whole new stage in their development as dancers. They are becoming established
Dance Teachers, and demonstrators, and they feel that their Demonstration work
has added a new dimension to their competitive performance.
So far Timothy and Joanne have lived
the life they always dreamed of and say that they will continue in their pursuit
of perfection. In the future they aim to become World and British Professional
Modern Champions, and to be able to represent their country in the
Olympics.
In addition to their very busy
schedules they have now completed a series of videos. With the help of the
Himawari Dance Company of Japan, they have produced one Basic Figures video,
(which is now available in both Japanese and English versions), and Four
Teaching Videos to be released later this year. These they hope will enable you
to improve and enjoy your dancing more, so don¡¯t forget to check the ¡®Teaching
Videos¡¯ page to see how to can obtain your copies.
